Program Overview

Nurse Anesthesia Program

The nationally accredited doctoral nurse anesthesia program at FSU Panama City is a rigorous 36-month program focused on patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures in a variety of settings.

Program Description

The curriculum highlights the use of critical thinking, clear communication, and professionalism while conducting various anesthesia techniques; and places an emphasis on analysis, evaluation, and critical decision-making skills in all anesthetic areas.

Mission

The mission of the Florida State University Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program (DNAP) is to advance the science and practice of anesthesiology through rigorous scientific education, evidence-based clinical practice, and the integration of clinical training into real-world care—ultimately serving the health and well-being of citizens at both the local and national levels.

Admission

For the cohort beginning May 2026, the online application window will open August 1, 2025, and close January 15, 2026. Interviews are typically held in February following the application deadline. The highly competitive, limited-access program is offered through Florida State's College of Applied Studies and will admit 34-36 students each year.

Career Outlook

  • As advanced medical professionals, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists have high-paying, rewarding careers with a growing demand.
  • The median annual wage for Nurse Anesthetists is $167,950, according to 2018 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • The highest 10 percent earned more than $208,000.
  • Employment of nurse anesthetists is projected to grow 31 percent from 2016 to 2026 because of an increased emphasis on preventive care and demand for healthcare services from an aging population.

Program History

Since its inception in 2015, the program has demonstrated a history of excellence in multiple areas.
