Special Education Program
The Special Education program at Florida State University is a combined BS/MS pathway that prepares students to transform the lives of people with special needs. The program features cutting-edge instruction and research, small classes, enthusiastic faculty, empathetic approaches, dynamic field experiences, and mentors who help ensure students have the training and tools necessary to successfully support their students' learning.
Program Overview
The program is designed for students who are interested in a challenging and rewarding career in special education. Students will be prepared to work with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and intellectual disabilities. The program provides real-world experience from the start, with students experiencing what it's like to be a teacher in actual classrooms as early as their first semester.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the program will be eligible for masters-level compensation and will have the opportunity to pursue a career in a school district, state education agency, corporate or non-profit organization, or higher education institution. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for special education teachers is expected to grow by 6 percent through 2024, with a median national annual salary of $57,910 per year.

About the College
The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences at Florida State University is the oldest college of its kind in Florida.
