Introduction to the Juris Master Program
The Juris Master (J.M.) Program at Florida State University College of Law is designed for individuals seeking to develop legal knowledge and skills that support their career and educational goals. Juris Master Admission Standards
The Admissions Committee conducts a comprehensive and individualized review of each application to identify students who will meaningfully contribute to the academic community and institution. The committee seeks candidates with relevant professional experience, strong academic performance, and a clear dedication to excelling in a challenging and engaging academic environment.
Academic and Admission Requirements
To apply for admission to the Juris Master Program, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable international degree
- Hold a graduate degree or higher from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable international institution
- Meet test score requirements
- Degrees used to meet the eligibility requirement must be conferred by the start of the applicant's admissions term
Individuals who hold a non-accredited J.D., an ABA-accredited J.D., or a non-U.S. LL.B. (or equivalent) are ineligible for the Juris Master Program.

The Juris Master Program accepts applications throughout the year (fall, spring, and summer). Application deadlines are as follows:
- Summer 2026: March 1, 2026
- Fall 2026: July 1, 2026
- Spring 2027: November 1, 2026

Test Score Requirements
FSU is waiving the Graduate Record Examination Test (GRE) as a requirement for admission to certain master's and specialist degree programs for 2026.
Educational Institution Discipline or Violations of Law
If an applicant answers 'Yes' to any questions regarding academic misconduct or criminal charges, a written explanation is required. Omission of academic misconduct or criminal charges will result in an automatic denial or admission revocation.
Readmission to the Juris Master Program
Former J.M. students who completed one or more semesters in the program must go through the J.M. College of Law Readmission Application to reapply for admission.
Official Transcripts
Once admitted to a program, applicants have until the first week of their first semester to submit their official transcripts. Official transcripts must be sent directly from the previous institution to FSU.
International Applications
International applicants or degrees earned from international institutions must submit their official transcripts through the Evaluation Company pathway portal or from another NACES approved evaluator. Official English language proficiency results are required of all international applicants whose native language is not English.
Transfer Students
Students may transfer up to six credit hours from another master's in law program. Transfer credits will be evaluated by the associate dean for Juris Master Programs.
