Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at Florida State University is a nationally accredited program that provides students with quality preparation to pursue nursing careers in all specialties and areas of nursing. The program is a Specialized Admission upper division major comprised of sequential course offerings and elective courses. Students are accepted each Fall, Spring, and Summer semester.


Program Details

  • The BSN program is FOUR consecutive semesters in length (15-16 months).
  • The program provides learning experiences in various clinical settings, including community health agencies, clinics, hospitals, and homes.
  • Nursing courses include classroom and laboratory activities correlated with supervised clinical practice experiences.
  • Students will develop skills in managing patients from various backgrounds and cultures.
  • The program moves through the continuum of care and the spectrum of complexity in the clinical setting across the lifespan.

Application and Admissions

The College of Nursing at Florida State University utilizes a holistic admissions process that assesses an applicant's unique experiences alongside traditional measures of academic achievement.


  • Community engagement and work experience are considered along with the overall grade point average and prerequisite grade point average to select the most qualified applicants for entry into the program.
  • The entire application packet is evaluated by the Undergraduate Admissions Committee, which is composed of faculty from the undergraduate program.

Admission Deadlines

  • Spring 2026 Admission: Applications are accepted from June 1, 2025, to July 1, 2025.
  • Summer 2026 Admission: Applications are accepted from October 1, 2025, to November 1, 2025.
  • Fall 2026 Admission: Applications are accepted from January 1, 2026, to February 1, 2026.

Minimum Requirements

  • Students are admitted through a competitive application process to the College of Nursing after they have completed the nursing prerequisites and a minimum of sixty (60) credit hours of courses that fulfill General Education / Graduation Requirements per the FSU catalog or an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree from an accredited Florida public institution.
  • To be qualified for admissions, applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and earn a C or better in all prerequisite coursework.
  • A C- (minus) is not accepted for prerequisite coursework.
  • Courses may be retaken and successfully completed with a C or better to qualify for admissions.

Additional Costs

  • Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from clinicals.
  • During Semester 2, students may be required to travel to surrounding counties for community clinicals.
  • During Semester 3, students attend clinicals outside of Tallahassee.
  • During Semester 4, students may be placed outside Tallahassee for their internship.
  • Students are responsible for all transportation and living costs.
