Online Master of Social Work Program

The Online Master of Social Work (MSW) program at Florida State University is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a licensed clinical social worker. The program is offered online and is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Program Overview

The Online MSW program is available in two tracks: Advanced Standing MSW and Traditional MSW. The Advanced Standing MSW is designed for students who have a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited institution, while the Traditional MSW is designed for students who have a bachelor's degree in any field.

• Advanced Standing MSW: This track is designed for students who have a BSW degree and can be completed in 2 years or less.
• Traditional MSW: This track is designed for students who have a bachelor's degree in any field and can be completed in 3 years.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Online MSW program, students must meet the following requirements:

• Advanced Standing MSW: Students must have a BSW degree from a CSWE-accredited institution and a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Traditional MSW: Students must have a bachelor's degree in any field and a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Curriculum

The Online MSW program curriculum is clinically focused and includes courses such as:

• Human Behavior and The Social Environment: This course focuses on reciprocal relationships between human behavior and social environments.
• Social Welfare Policy and Services: This course provides an initial opportunity to investigate the relationships among individual and collective social welfare and public policy in American society.
• Mental Health and Child Welfare: This course provides students with knowledge and skills related to the theory, research, and implications of child and adolescent maltreatment.
• Clinical Social Work Practice: This advanced practice course emphasizes development of clinical skills.

Field Placements

The Online MSW program includes field placements that provide students with hands-on experience in various settings, such as schools, agencies, clinics, and more.

• Traditional MSW: Students must complete two field placements.
• Advanced Standing MSW: Students must complete one field placement.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The tuition for the Online MSW program is $625 per credit hour. The program consists of 61 credit hours for the Traditional MSW and 39 credit hours for the Advanced Standing MSW.

Licensure

The Online MSW program is designed to meet the licensing requirements for clinical social work in Alabama. However, licensure requirements can change, and it is essential to check with the state's licensing agency periodically.
