Academic Map

The Academic Map is a term-by-term sample course schedule designed to keep students on track to graduate in four years.

Communication (Digital Media Production)

The Digital Media Production Major is a Specialized Admission/Limited Access major. Acceptance into the School of Communication is competitive and occurs once a year in the spring semester to begin the following summer or fall semester.

Program Requirements

• The program is available only at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL, and is not available via Online/Distance Learning.
• The General Education and Elective courses must be selected to satisfy all area and diversity requirements unless the program meets these requirements with major courses.
• Milestones are courses and special requirements necessary for timely progress to complete a major.
• Missing milestones will result in one of two types of map registration stops: Degree Map Off-track or Major Change Required stop.

The following is a sample schedule and required milestones by term:

Term 1

• Sample Schedule:
  • ENC1101 Freshman Composition (3 hours)
  • 1st GE Core Mathematics (3 hours)
  • GE History (3 hours)
  • GE Core Natural Science with Lab (4 hours)
• Required Milestones:
  • Complete ENC1101 (≥ C minus)
  • Overall GPA ≥ 2.80

Term 2

• Sample Schedule:
  • ENC2135 Research, Genre, and Context (3 hours)
  • 2nd GE Mathematics or Statistics (3 hours)
  • GE Core Humanities/Cultural Practice (3 hours)
  • GE Natural Science (3 hours)
  • First Language proficiency course (3-4 hours)
• Required Milestones:
  • Complete ENC2135 (≥ C minus)
  • Complete 1st GE Mathematics course (≥ C minus)
  • Overall GPA ≥ 2.90

Term 3

• Sample Schedule:
  • MMC2000 Introduction to Mass Media (3 hours)
  • SPC2608 Public Speaking (Foundation course) (3 hours)
  • Ethics course (3 hours)
  • GE Core Social Science (3 hours)
  • Second Language proficiency course (3-4 hours)
• Required Milestones:
  • See Academic Advisor in Communication
  • Complete 2nd GE Mathematics or Statistics Course (≥ C minus)
  • Complete MMC2000 (≥ C minus)
  • Overall GPA ≥ 3.00

Term 4

• Sample Schedule:
  • Digital Literacy course (3 hours)
  • GE Humanities/Cultural Practice (3 hours)
  • GE Social Science (3 hours)
  • Third Language proficiency course (3-4 hours)
• Required Milestones:
  • Apply to School of Communication by Dec. 31, 11:59pm EST
  • Complete 52 hours, statewide Core and General Education
  • Overall GPA ≥ 3.00

Term 5

  • Foundation course (see approved list) (3 hours)
  • RTV3101 Writing for the Electronic Media (3 hours)
  • RTV3531 Single-Camera Video Production (3 hours)
  • RTV3571 Digital Media Production Workshop (3 hours)
  • Minor Course (3 hours)
• Required Milestones:
  • Complete one (1) Foundation course with a C minus or better
  • Complete RTV3531 with a C minus or better
  • Complete RTV3571 with a C minus or better
  • Civics Literacy requirement
  • Overall GPA ≥ 3.00

Term 6

  • MMC3505 Documentary History, Theory and Practice (3 hours)
  • Advanced Production Course (see approved list) (3 hours)

• Required Milestones:
  • Complete the two (2) required Foundation courses, each with a C minus or better
  • Complete RTV3101 with a C minus or better
  • Complete MMC3505 with a C minus or better
  • Complete Scholarship In Practice Course
  • Request a graduation check from BOTH the Registrar's office and the CCI Advising Center
  • Overall GPA ≥ 3.00

Term 7
