Dietetics

The Dietetics program at Florida State University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in dietetics, preparing them for careers in healthcare, food service, and nutrition. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).

Program Description

Dietitians and nutritionists enjoy diverse and increasingly prestigious responsibilities among health professionals. In addition to general, clinical, and community dietetics, the clinical dietitian or nutritionist may specialize in metabolic support, renal dietetics, pediatric dietetics, or clinical research. Students are also prepared for institutional food service administration and product development for the food industry.

Program Requirements

The program requires students to complete a series of courses, including:

• ENC1101 Freshman Composition
• MAC1105 College Algebra
• ECO2000 Intro. to Economics, ECO2013 Macroeconomics or ECO2023 Microeconomics
• CoreFSU Humanities/Cultural Practice
• Elective

  • CHM1045 General Chemistry I and CHM 1045 Lab (4 hours)
  • STA2122 Applied Statistics (or STA2023 Business Statistics) (3 hours)
  • CoreFSU Requirement (3 hours)
• Required Milestones:
  • Complete ENC2135 (≥ C minus)
  • Complete 2nd Quantitative & Logical Thinking course (minimum C minus or better is required)
  • Complete HUN1201 (minimum C minus or better is required)
  • Complete CHM1045 and Lab w/C minus or better in each (B or better in each suggested)

Term 3

  • CHM1046 General Chemistry II and CHM1046 Lab (4 hours)
  • PSY2012 General Psychology (3 hours)

• Required Milestones:
  • Complete CHM1046 and Lab w/C minus or better in each (B or better in each suggested)
  • Complete ECO2000, ECO2013, or ECO2023 (≥ C minus)

Term 4

  • CHM2210 Organic Chemistry I or other approved Organic Chemistry (3 hours)
  • MCB2004 General Microbiology and MCB2004 Lab or other approved Food Microbiology (4 hours)
  • DIE 3005 Introduction to Dietetics (1 hour)
  • CoreFSU Digital Literacy course (3 hours)
  • CoreFSU Oral Communication Competency (3 hours)
• Required Milestones:
  • Complete CHM2210 w/C minus or higher (B minus or higher suggested)
  • Complete DIE3005 with final grade of 'S'
  • Overall GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Apply to program via DIE3005

Term 5
