Academic Program Guide

Entrepreneurship (Retail)

The Entrepreneurship (Retail) program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in retail entrepreneurship. The program is available only at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL, and is not offered via online or distance learning.


Program Requirements

To be certified into the major, students must have completed at least 52 credit hours, earned a "C minus" or better in the Admission Prerequisite Courses, and have a overall GPA of 3.00 or higher. The Admission Prerequisite Courses include:


  • MAC1105: College Algebra or higher mathematics
  • ECO2013: Macroeconomics or ECO2023: Microeconomics
  • Any leadership course
  • STA2023: Fundamental Business Statistics
  • CTE1401: Introduction to Textiles

Sample Schedule and Required Milestones

The program is designed to be completed in four years, with the following sample schedule and required milestones:


Term 1

  • ENC1101: Freshman Composition (3 hours)
  • MAC1105: College Algebra or higher mathematics (3 hours)
  • GE Core Humanities or Ethics course (3 hours)
  • ECO2013: Macroeconomics or ECO2023: Microeconomics (3 hours)
  • GE History (3 hours)
  • Required Milestones:
    • Complete ENC1101 with a grade of C minus or better
    • Complete MAC1105 or higher math with a grade of C minus or better

Term 2

  • ENC2135: Research, Genre, and Context (3 hours)
  • Leadership course (LDRxxxx) (3 hours)
  • ECO2013: Macroeconomics or ECO2023: Microeconomics (3 hours)
  • GE Core Natural Science and Lab (4 hours)
  • Required Milestones:
    • Complete ENC2135 with a grade of C minus or better
    • Complete two Admission Prerequisites with a grade of C minus or better

  • ENT 3451: Entrepreneurs Guide to Accounting (3 hours)
  • CTE 3055: Computer Applications (3 hours)
  • Choose 2: CTE 3835: Visual Merchandising, CTE 4826: Retail Buying, and/or CTE 4443: Product Evaluation (6/7 hours)
  • CTE 3808: Consumers in the Marketplace (3 hours)
  • Required Milestones:
    • Complete CTE 3055 with a grade of C minus or better
    • Complete ENT 3941 with a grade of C minus or better
    • Complete CTE 3806 with a grade of C minus or better
    • Complete ENT 3513 with a grade of C minus or better

  • ENT 4122: Go-To-Market Strategies (3 hours)
  • CTE 3431: Product Development Process (3 hours)
  • Choose one: CTE 4812: Retail Branding or ENT 4811: E-Commerce (3 hours)
  • Choose one: CTE 4605: Retail Supply Chain or CTE 4829: Global Sourcing (3 hours)
  • JM Elective (3 hours)
  • Required Milestones:
    • Complete CTE 3431 with a grade of C minus or better
    • Complete Department and University Graduation Checks

Term 8

  • ENT 4114: Business Plan Design (3 hours)
  • ECO 3041: Personal Finance (3 hours)
  • Choose two additional CTE courses (6 hours)
  • Required Milestones:
    • Complete all Major courses with a final grade of C minus or better
    • Apply for graduation in the first two weeks
    • Students are required to have a minimum FSU GPA of 2.00 or higher to graduate
