Risk Management and Insurance
The program in Risk Management/Insurance permits the student to specialize in insurance-related studies. The field of insurance offers the student challenging work and diverse opportunities for non-sales careers of many types as well as providing protection to individuals, groups, and industry. The program emphasizes corporate insurance and related products. The Risk Management/Insurance degree program is designed to meet the academic needs of the professional insurance and risk management practitioner. The objective of the curriculum in risk and insurance is to acquaint the student with the effects of risk and uncertainty upon business and society. The analysis of risk and the methods of meeting risk are placed in proper perspective as parts of a broad business management curriculum.

The program in Risk Management/Insurance is available only at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL, and is not available via Online/Distance Learning.

- CGS X518 (3) Spreadsheets for Business or CGS X100 (3) Microcomputer Apps. for Business or CGS X060 (3) Computer Fluency
- ECO X013 (3) Principles of Macroeconomics
- ECO X023 (3) Principles of Microeconomics
- MAC X233 (3) Calculus for Business and Non-Physical Sciences (Higher level Calculus courses will be accepted)
- STA X023 (3) Business Statistics (Higher level Statistics courses will be accepted)
- Students taking CGS X100 or CGS X060 or other approved course will also need to take CGS X518 at FSU.
Admission Requirements
Admission to this Specialized Admissions business program requires:
- Completion of at least 52 semester hours
- A cumulative grade point average on all college work attempted of at least 2.900
- Satisfactory completion of all required prerequisite coursework
Major Program of Studies
The major program of studies at FSU consists of 49-52 hours, depending on whether CGS X518 was taken as a prerequisite course or not.

Major Area Requirements
All risk management/insurance majors must complete the following six courses:
- RMI 4115 (3) Lifecycle Risk Management
- RMI 4224 (3) Property and Casualty Insurance Products
- RMI 4292 (3) Property and Casualty Insurance Operations
- RMI 4347 (3) Commercial Risk Management
Plus two (2) electives from the following list of courses:
- RMI 4135 (3) Employee Benefit Plans
- RMI 4226 (3) Insurance Data Analytics
- RMI 4295 (3) Advanced Property and Liability Insurance
- RMI 4304 (3) Applied Learning in RMI

Digital Literacy
CGS X2060 (3), CGS X2100 (3), and/or CGS X2518 (3) may be taken for admission. CGS X2518 is a required course for graduation in the RMI major.
Oral Communication Competency
Students must demonstrate the ability to orally transmit ideas and information clearly. Business majors complete GEB 3213.

Mapping
Mapping is FSU's academic advising and monitoring system. Academic progress is monitored each Fall and Spring semester to ensure that students are on course to earn their degree in a timely fashion.
Remarks
- A minimum of 45 hours at the 3000 level or above, at least 30 of which must be taken at this University.
- At least half of the major course semester hours must be completed in residence at this University. After enrolling at this University, all remaining major course requirements must be completed at this University.
- The final 30 hours must be completed in residence at this University.
