Program Overview


Program Overview

The Sport Psychology graduate programs at Florida State University provide a solid understanding of theory and research related to sport psychology. Students gain an understanding of the science of athlete performance and welfare, and have opportunities to join research teams, build research skills, and use technologies that support research projects in the field of sport psychology.


Admission Requirements

Admission to graduate study is a two-fold evaluation process. The Office of Admissions determines eligibility for admission to the University, and the academic department, program, or college determines admissibility to the degree program.


  • University graduate admissions requirements include a course-by-course credential evaluation for all applicants with degrees from non-U.S. institutions.
  • International and domestic applicants with degrees earned from international institutions must submit their official transcripts through a NACES approved evaluator.
  • Applicants must have:
    • A graduate degree with at least a 3.5 GPA for doctoral degree programs.
    • Official test results from the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for doctoral degree programs, with target scores of:
      • Verbal: 50th percentile
      • Quantitative: 50th percentile
      • Analytical: 3.5
    • A language proficiency test (for international students only), with minimum scores of:
      • TOEFL: 80
      • IELTS: 6.5
      • MELAB: 77
      • Cambridge C1 Advanced Level: 180
      • Michigan Language Assessment: 55
      • Duolingo: 120
  • Transcripts must be submitted from each college and/or university attended.
  • Three letters of recommendation are required, written by persons who can comment on the likelihood of success within the department.
  • A personal statement is required, describing the purpose for pursuing a sport psychology degree, qualifications, and long-term career goals, and should be no more than 3 pages in length.
  • A resume or curriculum vitae is required.

  • Application Deadline for Master's: January 15th (Fall admission only)
