Major in English with Concentration in Journalism

The Major in English with Concentration in Journalism offers students an identity as journalists and English majors, while building a cohort within the major.


Concentration Requirements

  • REQUIRED COURSE: 3 credit hours, ENGL 204 Introduction to Journalism
  • ELECTIVES: 6 credit hours, any two of the following:
    • ENGL 205 Media Literacy
    • ENGL 285 Special Topics: Art of the Op-Ed
    • ENGL 306 Intermediate Writing Workshop: Creative Non-Fiction
    • ENGL 307 Feature/Magazine Writing
    • ENGL 309 Immersion Journalism/Multimedia Storytelling
    • ENGL 374 Internship in Journalism
    • Capstone in journalism (either as ENGL 390C or as a capstone attached to an existing 300-level journalism course)
    • Other electives can be determined with the advisor (e.g. ENGL 262 Free Press and Protest, POSC 321 News Media and Politics, etc.)
