Weekend Master of Social Work (MSW)

The Weekend Master of Social Work (MSW) program is designed for working professionals, allowing them to pursue their passion for helping others while maintaining their full-time work responsibilities. The program is offered in a weekend format, with classes held exclusively over weekends.

Program Overview

The Weekend MSW program can be completed in 2-3 years, with 39-60 credit hours required. The program features:

  • Weekend courses that typically meet in person one weekend a month
  • Two-hour Saturday Zoom sessions in between on-campus weekends to support learning and maximize time during on-campus weekends
  • Face-to-face engagement with expert faculty and peers during weekends, allowing for a strong network and supportive learning environment

Advanced Standing

Applicants to the weekend master's program who hold a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) are automatically considered for advanced standing status. The advanced standing track allows students to earn their master's in social work in as little as two years in the weekend format.

Paths of Study

The Weekend MSW program offers three paths of study:

  • Children, Youth and Families: Providing a range of services to individuals and families, such as marital therapy, family counseling, parent education, and child welfare.
  • Mental Health with Adults: Leading change as a clinician in community-based mental health practice settings, such as hospitals, substance abuse treatment programs, and mental health centers.
  • Substance Use Disorders and Recovery: Working to diagnose and treat substance use and dependence, exploring the interaction of mental health issues and substance abuse, and discovering the impact of substance use on different populations.

A Dedicated, Passionate Cohort

The Weekend MSW program provides a uniquely supportive environment, with a cohort of like-minded individuals who share a drive to pursue higher education opportunities in weekend programs. Past participants in the weekend program have worked in roles such as:

  • Addiction specialist
  • Child welfare officer
  • Higher education administrator
  • Private practitioner
  • Program manager
  • Trauma specialist

Program Formats

The MSW degree is offered in both on-campus and online formats, providing flexible options to fit career, family, and lifestyle needs.
