Dental Public Health, Professional Certification
Overview
The advanced education program in Dental Public Health is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and offers three tracks:
- One-year full-time for dentists with a Master of Public Health or equivalent
- Two-year part-time for dentists with a Master of Public Health or equivalent
- Two-year full-time for dentists WITHOUT a Master of Public Health

Program Requirements
The primary training site is the CWRU School of Dental Medicine, with extramural sites in other parts of Ohio. The didactic instruction for the residency program encompasses the new competencies of the American Board for Dental Public Health and concepts such as:
- Population health
- Cultural competency
- Epidemiology
- Social determinants
- Health literacy Residents in the first two tracks should complete at least one research project and those in the third track are required to complete two projects. The field experience sites have been carefully chosen to increase residents' cultural sensitivity and understanding, particularly about underserved groups. Trainees have opportunities to work with vulnerable populations.
