Program Overview


University Program Details

The university offers a 4-year MSD Track, which is a 48-month curriculum in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.


Program Structure

The program is divided into rotation blocks, with the following structure:


  • Block 1 to Block 12, with specific rotations for each block, including:
    • OMS (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)
    • GEN SURG (General Surgery)
    • ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat)
    • PLAS (Plastic Surgery)
    • ANES (Anesthesiology)
    • SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit)
    • IM (Internal Medicine)
  • The program also includes a chief resident position for 6 months.

  • DENT 580: OMS Orthodontic Orthognathic Seminar (6 credit hours)
  • NEW OMS OMFS Pathology Seminar (6 credit hours)
  • NEW OMS OMFS Parameters of Care: Lit Review (12 credit hours, given over 10 months)
  • NEW OMS Surgical Case Presentation Conference (12 credit hours, given bi-monthly over 12 months)
  • NEW OMS Basics OMS conference (12 credit hours, given weekly over 11 months)
  • NEW OMS Advance OMS clinical training (6 credit hours, clinical dental training)

Program Duration and Requirements

The program is 48 months long, with the following requirements:


  • 6 months as chief resident
  • 34 months of OMS training
  • 5 consecutive months of anesthesiology training (16 weeks adult anes, 4 weeks peds)
  • 6 months of surgery, trauma, SICU, ENT, and plastic surgery training
  • 3 months of internal medicine training
