Introduction to the Dayong Jin Student Fellowship

The Dayong Jin Student Fellowship is an exciting opportunity for undergraduate students interested in pursuing research studies in the future. This fellowship is offered by the Institute for Biomedical Materials & Devices (IBMD) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).


About the Institute

The IBMD is at the forefront of biomedical advances, recognizing the importance of interdisciplinary research. The institute is part of the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences in the Faculty of Science at UTS.


Fellowship Details

  • Duration: 3 months (12 weeks)
  • Start Date: 17 November 2025 13 February 2026
  • Location: UTS Ultimo
  • Fellowship: $6,000 AUD (total amount), paid in two installments of $3,000 AUD over 3 months

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the fellowship, students must:


  • Be enrolled or have completed a science or engineering undergraduate degree at any Australian university
  • Have a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) or GPA of 65 or above
  • Have a passion for a research career

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:


  • A cover page demonstrating their passion for research in this field and describing their motivation to succeed
  • A research proposal outlining their interest and ideas based on one of the listed projects
  • A summarized CV (max 3 pages)
  • An undergraduate academic transcript showing a GPA of 65 or above

Selection Process

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview (in person or online) and selected based on the above criteria.


Research Areas

The fellowship focuses on IBMD-related research studies, with various projects available. Successful students will work alongside research leaders and PhD students in IBMD within the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Faculty of Science at UTS.


Conditions

The recipient(s) must conduct their research with the support of the relevant assigned project supervisor at IBMD for the entire duration. Leave of Absence is not permitted, and payment of the Fellowship may be suspended or terminated if the minimum progression is not maintained.
