Master of Planning
The Master of Planning at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is a world-class planning degree that equips students with the skills and knowledge to create sustainable, resilient urban spaces. This program is designed for professionals in design, planning, and property seeking to advance their careers with a comprehensive understanding of planning and negotiation skills.
Course Description
The Master of Planning is a 1.5-year full-time or 3-year part-time program that explores career-ready capabilities in urban planning, development, community engagement, sustainability, and more. Through hands-on project experience, students will have the opportunity to hone their skills further, exploring a strategic, solutions-focused, and collaborative approach that is required for professional success.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Completed UTS Bachelor of Property Economics
- Completed UTS Graduate Certificate or UTS Graduate Diploma in Planning, Property and Planning, Property Development, or Urban Planning/Urban Design with a minimum GPA of 5/7
- Completed Australian bachelor's, bachelor honours degree, or master's degree, or overseas equivalent, in a related field of study
- Completed Australian Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma, or overseas equivalent, in a related field of study with a minimum GPA of 5/7 and a minimum of 3 years full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant professional work experience
- Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent, in any field of study and a minimum of 3 years full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant professional work experience
Course Structure
The program is delivered in person and designed to be completed in 18 months full-time or three years part-time. In this course, students will acquire a wide array of competencies in a variety of vital areas, spanning urban design, architecture, economics, law, and ecology.

Tuition Fees
The indicative total tuition fee for government-supported domestic students is $14,425.00, and for domestic students, it is $48,476.00. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and may change.
Location
Our classes are held at our City Campus, or specialist off-campus locations. Some of our courses are delivered via online (distance) learning.
Accreditation
The UTS Master of Planning is accredited by the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA), ensuring students receive a nationally recognised, internationally relevant qualification.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Exemptions of up to 24 credit points will be given for equivalent prior learning. Students who have completed the UTS Bachelor of Property Economics with a SMJ04024 Planning sub-major will be given up to 24 credit points of exemptions.
Articulation with UTS Courses
This course is part of an articulated program comprising the Graduate Certificate in Planning (C11270), the Graduate Diploma in Planning (C07002), and the Master of Planning.
