Introduction to CSARM Modules C and D: Assessment of Contaminants of Concern
The CSARM Modules C and D: Assessment of Contaminants of Concern is a short course offered through UTS Open. This course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the characteristics of contaminants of concern in the context of site assessment, remediation, and management.
Course Overview
The course covers the essential properties of soil and groundwater that control contaminant fate and transport, as well as the essentials of contaminant toxicology. Participants will learn how to assess the risk of harm to humans and the environment, and how to apply risk assessment approaches to gain a deeper understanding of the effects on human and ecological health.

- The regulatory drivers for investigating contamination
- The properties, persistence, toxicity, and transformations of major groups of contaminants of concern
- Human health and environmental toxicology in the context of site assessment and remediation
- Risk assessment approaches to contaminants of concern
- The impact of contaminant chemistry and media factors on the reliability of analytical methods and sampling procedures
