CHEX Community Gift Card
The CHEX Community Gift Card is a program that supports local businesses and residents in the Ultimo area. The program:
- Provides a digital gift card that can be used at participating businesses
- Supports the local economy by encouraging residents to shop at local businesses
- Has been successful in redistributing over $80,000 to the local community since its establishment in 2020
Digital Solution
UTS Rapido, a research innovation hub, has developed a digital solution to replace the manual processes used to administer the CHEX community card. The digital solution:
- Uses a QR code to distribute the gift card
- Tracks how much is being spent at participating businesses
- Provides a back-end system for businesses to check QR code validity and see how much they are owed
- Has the potential to double or triple the number of businesses signing up to the program in the next six months
- Is expected to save 400 volunteer hours in the first year
