Program Overview

Graduate Diploma in Planning

Overview

The Graduate Diploma in Planning is a comprehensive course tailored for professionals in design, planning, and property sectors seeking to pivot their careers. It offers a comprehensive understanding of planning issues, negotiation skills, and creative problem-solving abilities. This course provides a unique perspective on planning as a critical, community-connecting task rather than a mere approval process. It fosters a collaborative learning environment where property development and planning students share a foundational year, promoting a balanced approach to urban development.

The course stands out for its multidisciplinary approach, integrating knowledge from various fields such as urban design, economics, and law, to shape sustainable urban environments. A strong focus on sustainability and the property development cycle is central to the curriculum. Students will gain technical skills for land market analysis, feasibility studies, and evidence-based forecasting. The course also covers large-scale structure planning and the design of master-planned communities.

Learning is interactive and applied, featuring peer-led teamwork, case studies, and field trips, with international travel opportunities to enhance global perspective. Upon completion, students will be well-equipped for a career transition, with opportunities in both public and private sectors. Graduates find roles in government, consulting, strategic and sub-regional planning, and property development, where they can influence major projects and master planning with financial analysis.
