Program Overview


THE ONLINE MBA CURRICULUM

The MBA@Rice program empowers students to create an academic experience that aligns with their specific interests. Ranked the No. 9 online MBA by U.S. News & World Report for 2021, this program offers a flexible curriculum that allows students to customize their education to meet their career goals and create value across their organization.

Curriculum Breakdown

CORE COURSES: 36 CREDITS

The core courses prepare students to apply a wide range of skills in real-world business settings. Students gain an understanding of essential business principles, such as financial accounting, business analytics, marketing strategy, leadership, and finance, and develop interpersonal skills with courses relating to organizational behavior, negotiations, and leadership.


ELECTIVES AND FOCUS AREAS: 13.5 CREDITS

The elective courses give students the option to tailor their education to their career goals. Students can choose electives that align with their specific interests, opt for a general management approach, or select from seven career- or industry-specific focus areas:

FIELD EXPERIENCES: 4.5 CREDITS

During their time as students, they are required to complete at least two field experience coursesone MBA@Rice Residential and one international Global Field Experience (GFE).


Field Experience Details

  • MBA@Rice Residentials: These are on-campus experiences that consist of a variety of simulations, seminars, group projects, and guided leadership exercises that bring students face to face with peers, faculty, and industry leaders.
  • GFEs (Global Field Experiences): These include optional seminars, intersessions, and study abroad opportunities hosted throughout the program to diversify students' perspectives and enhance their business skill set.
