RISE Academy

The RISE Academy is a 5-week, residential, summer acclimation program designed to ease the transition to college and support academic success.


Program Details

The RISE Academy program includes:


  • Completion of a 4-credit math course
  • Participation in weekly career preparation and academic skill workshops
  • Engagement in a unique and independent hands-on learning experience
  • Attendance at tours to research facilities and industry site locations
  • Receipt of tutoring or small group course advisement
  • Attendance at weekly networking events or social activities
  • Connection with COE leadership, faculty, advisors, and industry partners
  • Building of learning strategies and development of study skills
  • Receipt of academic coaching to identify goals and strategies for academic success
  • Presentation of research results or information on the EL experience to family and COE leadership
  • Automatic enrollment in the RISE program

The cost of the RISE Academy program is covered by the College of Engineering, including tuition, housing, meal plan, and costs associated with recreational events.


Application and Admissions Criteria

Admission to the RISE Academy is competitive and selective, with the following criteria:


  • Admission to the College of Engineering and enrollment for Fall classes
  • Demonstration of maturity and commitment to academic success
  • Completion of a short essay question: "Describe what you hope to gain from participation in the RISE Academy and ways you can contribute to an enriching summer experience."

Summer in Newark, Delaware

The RISE Academy program offers students the opportunity to experience the culture, nature, and entertainment of Newark and the Delaware Valley.
