Curriculum
The curriculum includes a wide range of materials and techniques, laying the foundation for a diverse craft practice. Students will get familiar with workshops and learn to create using different tools and methods. They will also start exploring how materials connect with the surrounding landscape.
Programme Structure and Content
- First Year: Trying out a wide range of materials and techniques, laying the foundation for a diverse craft practice.
- Second Year: Guided specialization, including in-depth learning about a traditional craft and its adaptation to new contexts, or an international study exchange with a partner university.
- Third Year: Aligning interests with professional practice, preparing students to work independently, including work placements, career guidance, an independent exam project, and a graduation exhibition.
Prerequisites and Selection
- Entry Requirements: General entry requirements + approved work sample. Exceptions may be made for Swedish when the language of instruction is English.
- Portfolio: Guidelines for the BFA programme in Crafting Futures are available.
- Selection: Based on an assessment of submitted work samples and a personal interview.
After Graduation
A BFA in Crafting Futures opens various professional practice opportunities grounded in material knowledge, including studio craft and art, artisanal production, and designed objects, whether as a freelancer or an employee. Graduates can also apply for a Master's programme in craft, art, design, or teaching.
Facilities
Custom-built workshops for Crafting Futures, including a modeling workshop for wood and metal, extensive textile facilities, wet modeling in clay and plaster, and a 3D digital lab. Campus Steneby has its own art gallery and library.
Exchange Opportunities
During the second year, students have the opportunity to do an exchange with another school through the international network.
