Program Overview

Environmental Sciences Master's Programme

The Environmental Sciences Master's programme at the University of Gothenburg is a 2-year, 120-credit programme that delves into the threats to our planet and the opportunities for human society to address these challenges. The programme is offered by the Department of Biological & Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Science and Technology.

Programme Overview

  • The programme begins with a mandatory semester consisting of four advanced environmental science courses, each worth 7.5 credits:
    • Global change – problem, analysis, measures
    • Resource efficiency – energy, material flows and ecosystem services
    • Environmental risk assessment and management
    • Nature-based solutions – potentials, pitfalls, and goal conflicts
  • Students then create their own profile within environmental science by choosing elective courses based on their background and interests.
  • The programme concludes with an Examination course in Environmental Science (30, 45, or 60 credits).
