International Master's Programme in Educational Research

The International Master's programme in Educational Research prepares students to become active educational researchers or to gain a scholarly foundation for their current professional practice. Students will learn in a research-intensive community, addressing the full spectrum of research skills and possibilities.

Programme Structure and Content

The programme consists of seven mandatory courses:

• Introduction to Educational Research
• Qualitative Approaches to Educational Research
• Quantitative Methods in Educational Research
• Introduction to Educational Research Practice
• Reading Educational Research and Theory
• Writing Research Plans in Education
• Master Thesis in Education Students will discover educational research traditions and methods while actively exploring their own unfolding identity as an educational researcher.

Prerequisites and Selection

Entry Requirements

• A bachelor's degree (180 credits) in one of the fields: Educational Sciences, Social Sciences, or Humanities, or a teacher's degree of at least 180 credits.
• Applicants must also prove their knowledge of English: English 6 or English, level 2 from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.

Selection

Selection is based on a motivation letter. The last day to submit the letter is 1 February for applicants in the international application round and 31 May for applicants in the national application round.

After Graduation

Graduates of the programme receive the degree Master of Science with a major in Education and specialization in Educational Research. They are highly qualified for PhD studies and can apply their research in their places of work.

Facilities

The Faculty of Education, "Pedagogen," is located in central Gothenburg, close to everything. Most teaching and research take place in three buildings, with facilities including the Service Center, the University Library, the Student Union's office, study counselling, and a café.
