Program Overview
Fysioterapeutprogrammet
The Fysioterapeutprogrammet at Sahlgrenska Academy is designed for individuals who wish to become experts in the functions of the human body in health and disease, as well as individualized adaptation of movement and physical activity. The program combines medical knowledge, practical skills, and scientific thinking.
Program Description
The program spans three years (180 higher education credits) and is organized into several courses. Students will gain a gradual deepening of theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as develop the ability to work independently, analyze, and think critically. The program emphasizes the importance of a person-centered approach, and the physiotherapeutic work and treatment are tailored to individuals with various functional variations.
Education Content
The education content includes:
- Anatomy, physiology, and psychology of the human body
- Physiotherapy, including orthopedics, rehabilitation medicine, and neurology
- Public health and behavioral science
- Scientific methods and research
Practical Training
The program includes practical training (VFU) in healthcare, where physiotherapists work, such as hospitals, primary care, and municipalities. Students will apply and practice theoretical knowledge and skills acquired earlier in the education. They will have their own patients under the supervision of a licensed physiotherapist.
Degree and Career Opportunities
After completing the program, students will receive a professional degree and a bachelor's degree in physiotherapy. It is then possible to continue studying at an advanced level to obtain a master's degree. Physiotherapists work with preventive, curative, and rehabilitative measures, mainly in healthcare, but also in other areas such as corporate health, wellness, and educational work.

Selection
The selection is based on grades (66%) and the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test (34%).
International Opportunities
As a student, there are opportunities to complete parts of the education abroad, including the thesis and practical training, provided that the partner universities have available supervisors and practical training placements.

The teaching premises are mainly located in connection to the medical faculty and near Sahlgrenska University Hospital. There are good communication options and walking distance from central parts of Gothenburg.
