About the Education
The textile field is a rich source for artistic exploration. The program is based on three fundamental principles:
- Surface: texture, color, pattern
- Structure: construction, assembly, buildup
- Context: interpretation, concept, environment
The education combines theory and practice, encouraging independent critical thinking and creation. The first part of the program focuses on materials and techniques, later guiding students towards more independent and complex work.

- Work Sample: Instructions for the work sample are provided separately.
- Selection: Based on the work sample and interview.
After the Studies
The program provides students with the prerequisites to work as artists with specialized knowledge in textile art. It also prepares students for further studies at an advanced level.
What It's Like to Study
Teaching
The first year is foundational, focusing on in-depth knowledge of techniques, methods, and expressions, and is built around the properties of materials. Students also have time to establish and strengthen their artistic language and explore how their artistic idea meets social relevance.
The second year emphasizes awareness of the relationship to the surrounding world, contemporary times, and history. Students receive an orientation in ongoing discussions within craft, design, art, and public design.
In the third year, students have more space for individually formulated projects in consultation with supervisors. There is also an opportunity for internships or exchange studies with another school. The spring semester ends with a degree project where students demonstrate their ability to independently drive an artistic in-depth project within a given timeframe.
Elective Courses
The program includes elective courses, which give students the opportunity to complement their knowledge within other artistic practices and develop their skills and abilities. Elective courses are a mandatory part of the program.
Facilities
Students study in facilities located in the center of Gothenburg, with proximity to the city's art and cultural offerings. For those who want to work with textiles, there is a workshop for textile printing, a fiber workshop, and a dyeing facility. There is also access to shared and private spaces for sketching.
Studies Abroad
During the second year, students have the opportunity to exchange with another school through the university's international network.
