H‰lso- och sjukvÂrdskuratorsprogrammet

The Health Care Counsellor Program is designed for individuals who are already working as social workers and those who wish to specialize directly after completing their social work studies. The program provides a mandatory foundation for applying for a professional license as a health care counselor and also enables further studies at the research level.

Program Content

The program consists of four terms, each with its own set of courses.

Term 1

• H‰lsa, kropp och samh‰lle (7.5 hp): Theoretical perspectives on health and illness at the individual, group, and societal levels, as well as current research and development work.
• Mˆten, metoder och etik I (7.5 hp): Focuses on crisis, grief, and trauma, ethics, and collaboration, aiming to strengthen students' ability to independently conduct analyses and assessments.

Term 2

• Mˆten, metoder och etik II (7.5 hp): Focuses on investigation, treatment, and follow-up related to students' ability to assess and evaluate the consequences of different methods.
• Valbar kurs (7.5 hp): Opportunity for individual specialization.

Term 3

• Samh‰llsvetenskaplig metod (7.5 hp): Provides broadened and in-depth knowledge of the research process, qualitative and quantitative research methods, scientific theoretical and philosophical issues, and research ethical principles.
• Till‰mpad teori och juridik inom h‰lso- och sjukvÂrdskuratorns omrÂde (7.5 hp): Based on practice-based studies, focusing on theoretical and legal aspects of the health care counselor's professional practice. Field study placement is assigned by the institution.

Term 4

• Vetenskapligt arbete i socialt arbete (15 hp): Involves writing an independent scientific paper that is presented and defended at a seminar.

Eligibility and Selection

• Eligibility: Requires a social work degree (210 higher education credits) or equivalent. Other prerequisites are documented in each course plan.
• Selection: Higher education credits, up to 165 hp.

Practical Training

The course "Till‰mpad teori och juridik inom h‰lso- och sjukvÂrdskuratorns omrÂde" is based on field-based studies, which are combined with lectures, seminars, and written exams, with the aim of applying knowledge in practice and using these experiences for further reflection on professional practice. As a student, you have a professionally active supervisor during the field-based parts of the course.

After Graduation

The program leads to a Master of Science in Health Care Counselling and provides a mandatory foundation for applying for a professional license as a health care counselor, as well as enabling further education at the research level.
