Program Content

The program focuses on advanced care of the elderly, including high professional competence in advanced assessment, care planning, and nursing of elderly patients. It also covers leadership skills to coordinate and lead care work.

Education

Requirements and Selection

Requirements

• Swedish license as a nurse
• Completed bachelor's degree (180 credits, including an independent project of 15 credits) in the main field of nursing or equivalent
• At least one year of work experience as a licensed nurse

Practical Training

The program includes operational-based training (VFU), a form of practical training in healthcare settings such as hospitals, primary care, and municipalities. During VFU, students apply theoretical knowledge and skills under supervision, with opportunities for patient-related work, reflection, and knowledge seeking.

After Studies

The program leads to an academic professional degree and a general degree at the advanced level (Master's degree). The job market for specialist nurses is very good.

Studies

The education is a distance-based, net-based education that can often be combined with other work. The program's courses have a clear focus on the elderly and include advanced assessment of symptoms and signs, advanced care actions, person-centered care, scientific method, learning, and leadership, as well as a degree project.
