Program Content

The program is divided into two years. During the first year, students learn to handle and analyze large amounts of data for life's molecules using programming, statistics, and AI. They also learn to interpret and understand these data for applications in molecular and evolutionary biology, genetics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, and chemistry.

Year 1

Students learn step-by-step to handle and analyze large amounts of data for life's molecules with the help of programming, statistics, and AI. They also learn to interpret and understand these data for applications in molecular and evolutionary biology, genetics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, and chemistry.

Year 2

During the second year, students conduct a bioinformatics thesis project of 30, 45, or 60 higher education credits in one of the research groups, in industry, or at an authority. If the thesis project is 60 higher education credits, no additional in-depth courses are required after the first year.

Requirements and Selection

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Master's program in Bioinformatics, students must have a university or college degree comprising 180 higher education credits (Bachelor's degree) in biology or an equivalent education in another natural science field.

Selection

Selection is based on a combined assessment of an obligatory selection test offered to all applicants after the application period ends.

After Studies

After completing the Master's program in Bioinformatics, students can pursue further studies at the doctoral level and aim for an academic career in natural sciences, medicine, or biotechnology. As a trained bioinformatician, graduates can work in both the private and public sectors, for example, in analysis, development, and research work in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or food industry, or in diagnostics within healthcare and at government agencies.

Study Abroad

Students can increase their attractiveness on the labor market by spending part of their education abroad. As an exchange student, they do not pay tuition fees abroad.
