Program Overview

Bachelor's Programme in Film Composition

The bachelor's programme in Film Composition is designed to develop skills in filmmaking methods and thinking with a focus on investigatory processes. As a student, you will develop your knowledge of the entire filmmaking process – from technical skill to artistic ability and theoretical expertise.

Programme Structure

In the first year, you will study and analyse – both practically and theoretically – your own understanding of the concept of images. In a series of brief exercises, you will explore the contributions images and sounds make to your own creative work, and you will develop the skills to use the technical tools you will need. You will also develop the tools to be able to use the camera as a teaching tool in educational settings. Based on the concept of acting, you will develop the skills to portray and stage a narrative and your ability to evaluate and make selections.

In the programme's second year, you will examine your own approach to rooms and space through practical work. You will develop the skills to find and configure both interior and exterior spaces for work using visualization and staging. Based on the concept of planning, you will work with all of the operations that precede and follow the production of a film project. In addition to developing your ideas, you will train the ability to establish and evaluate project plans in terms of resources and time.

In the third year, you will complete a production of your own from idea to finished master copy. In conjunction with the Göteborg Film Festival, you will get to present your film work for an audience, and then explore the possibilities of showing and distributing your work. You will also write a thoughtful essay on your own artistic work – a chance to reflect on what you have learned.
