Program Overview

Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Naval Architecture and Maritime Engineering

The Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Naval Architecture and Maritime Engineering is a program that combines mechanical engineering skills with specialized maritime knowledge. This program equips students to work with products and production related to the sea.

What will you learn?

The Naval Architecture and Maritime Engineering program provides students with a basic understanding of mechanical engineering and in-depth knowledge of the maritime field. This includes knowledge of mathematics, mechanics, dynamics, materials science, production technology, and construction. Students will also learn to combine this knowledge with expert knowledge of the sea, including how to design stable ships, harness the energy of the sea, and understand how maritime traffic can be improved to advance sustainability and environmental awareness.

Study Programme Structure

The study program begins with mandatory courses that equip students in fields such as mechanics, product development, and construction, as well as introducing them to maritime conditions. By the fourth semester, most mandatory courses have been completed, allowing students to focus on the maritime area that interests them most, whether it be materials for shipbuilding or the design of wave energy plants. In the fifth semester, students will undertake an internship in a company, where they will learn more about working life as an engineer. The study program concludes with a BEng project, ideally in collaboration with a company.

Career Opportunities

As a mechanical engineer in the maritime field, graduates are ready for a future with many opportunities and a wide range of tasks. Career paths may include working as a consulting engineer in a company, optimizing the shipping industry, designing new shipping routes, planning offshore wind farms, or developing equipment for large ships. The BEng program in Naval Architecture and Maritime Engineering equips students to make a difference in the future of the world and the sea.

  • Possible career roles include:
    • Consulting engineer
    • Shipping industry optimizer
    • Designer of new shipping routes
    • Planner of offshore wind farms
    • Developer of equipment for large ships
    • Specialist in wave energy or rudder design
    • Professional in shipping operations
