Program Overview


Program Overview

The program in question is a university course focused on transformation and renovation, aiming to provide students with the background necessary to work qualifiedly with the utilization of existing resources in the built environment. This is an essential step towards a more sustainable development of the building sector.


Course Objectives

The course handles two levels of transformation and renovation:


  • The planning level (regional and urban planning)
  • The level of existing buildings A better utilization of areas and buildings is a necessity in relation to several sustainability parameters (environmental, social, and economic sustainability, as well as biodiversity, resources, and climate).

Course Content

The course will introduce methods for analysis and evaluation and provide concrete examples from practice through the involvement of guest lecturers from the business community.


Learning Outcomes

A student who has fully met the course's objectives will be able to:


  • Analyze and evaluate potentials for better area utilization in existing built environments, including densification
  • Analyze and evaluate potentials for and advantages and disadvantages of densification of built environments
  • Analyze and evaluate potentials for transformation of built areas' utilization for other purposes
  • Analyze and evaluate problematics around, for example, expansion of infrastructure and changed structures in the labor market
  • Analyze and evaluate potentials for existing buildings' renovation, including an upgrade of functionality
  • Analyze and evaluate potentials for transformation of existing buildings for other purposes
  • Design proposals and strategies for better area utilization and better functionality in existing buildings and built environments
  • Design proposals and strategies for transformation of buildings and built areas' utilization for other purposes

Practical Information

  • The course lasts for 6 weeks and is taught online
  • Teaching takes place every Thursday from 13:00 to 17:00, starting in December
  • Project work will also be online, and students plan this themselves
  • Project groups are assigned one or more supervisors, and supervision takes place online by agreement between the group and the supervisor

Admission Requirements

The same admission requirements apply to the course as for admission to the Master's program in Sustainable Building. This means that the applicant must:


  • Have completed a relevant education at the bachelor's or master's level, for example, as a building engineer, architect, or building constructor
  • Have at least 2 years of relevant work experience after completing their education Bachelors or masters with other educational backgrounds can be admitted after individual assessment if they meet the second requirement

Tuition Fee

The price for participating in the course is 16,000 kroner.


Payment Terms

The participant payment entitles the participant to follow teaching, exams, and examinations related to the course in question. The payment deadline appears on the invoice. The participant will automatically be registered for the course when the invoice has been paid. The university reserves the right to cancel the participant's registration in case of non-payment and to cancel courses due to too few registrations. In case of cancellation of a purchased course or module, the tuition fee will be refunded.


Teachers

Each course has a course manager from one of the four universities and a permanent teacher. In addition, supervisors with special competencies can be attached. The university makes extensive use of inviting guest teachers who can be highly qualified specialists from a university or a company. It will vary from year to year who is invited.
