Master of Science in Engineering Acoustics
Program Overview
Master of Science (MSc) in Engineering Acoustics
The Master of Science in Engineering Acoustics is a two-year graduate program that covers a wide range of topics related to sound, hearing, audio technology, and vibration. This program helps society by creating healthy acoustic environments and reducing harmful environmental noise. It enables the assistance of the hearing impaired, the design of innovative architectural spaces, and the improvement of sound quality delivered by loudspeakers and communication devices.
Study Programme
Acoustic engineering is increasingly important in our society, and it is present in almost every aspect of our lives. The Engineering Acoustics program covers a wide range of topics within acoustics, including the fundamentals of sound propagation, advanced measurement techniques, and understanding and modeling of the human hearing system. The MSc Eng program offers a large number of courses dealing with human hearing and reaction to sound, acoustic measurement methods, electroacoustic systems and sensors, architectural acoustics, environmental acoustics, vibration control, signal processing, and machine learning.
Specializations
The education in Engineering Acoustics has five specializations:
- Audio and Transducer Technology
- Hearing Science and Perception
- Architectural Acoustics and Environment
- Vibration, Structures and Sound
- Signal Processing and Machine Learning Students can specialize in one or several of these subjects, modifying and tailoring their study plan to their specific interests. The specializations should be seen as suggestions regarding the choice of courses, providing in-depth knowledge tailored to the students' interests.
Joint International Programmes
This study program gives students the opportunity to enroll in a joint international master's program and gain a unique specialization, such as:
- Engineering Acoustics (KAIST)
Career
The MSc Eng degree in Engineering Acoustics provides a good basis for global employment with electrical, audio, and audiology companies, universities, and research centers, or consultancy firms specializing in acoustics. The profile of MSc Eng students is highly valued by the acoustic industry in Denmark and internationally.
Admission
Admission to the program is possible with a bachelor's degree from Denmark or outside of Denmark. Prerequisites for admission include a relevant bachelor's degree, and the application process involves submitting the required documents and meeting the specified deadlines.
Program Structure
The MSc Eng program is a two-year graduate program with a workload of 120 ECTS credit points. The program offers a high degree of flexibility, allowing students to design their own study program and career by choosing from a wide range of courses offered at DTU. The choice of courses in the students' individual study plan offers a high degree of flexibility.
Industry Master of Science
This program is also available as an industry master's program, combining part-time study with a part-time job. This provides an opportunity to apply academic knowledge in real-world settings and build a strong foundation for a future career.
