Program Overview

Master of Science (MSc) in Pharmaceutical Design and Engineering

The Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Design and Engineering is a two-year graduate program that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of all phases of drug development, with a special emphasis on biopharma.

Study Programme

The pharmaceutical industry is in great need of graduates with extensive knowledge of drug development, especially when it comes to drugs based on biological molecules. This program teaches students how to design, develop, and test drugs in line with the methods applied by the pharmaceutical industry. Students will acquire a broad range of competencies in all areas of pharma, including diagnostics and nanotechnological treatment methods. The program also covers the legal aspects relating to documentation, approval, and distribution of drugs.

Specializations

Students can choose from a range of technological specialization courses and combine them with elective courses to create an individual profile. There are no pre-defined sub-programs or specializations, allowing students to tailor their education to their interests and background.

Career Opportunities

Graduates from the program are well-suited to function as a link between the various stages in the development and production of pharmaceuticals and to fill management positions at different levels of the industry.

Program Structure

The program consists of a number of mandatory courses covering the pharmaceutical drug discovery process, as well as high-level biology courses supplemented with in-depth methodology and technology courses. Project work in close collaboration with relevant pharmaceutical companies plays an important role in the program, allowing students to use their technical and scientific knowledge to solve research and development problems currently challenging the pharmaceutical industry.

Industry Master of Science

The program is also available as an industry master's program, combining part-time study with a part-time job. This provides students with the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings and build a strong foundation for their future career.

Admission

Admission to the program requires a bachelor's degree from a recognized institution. Students with a bachelor's degree from Denmark or outside of Denmark can apply to the program.

Curriculum

The program consists of 120 ECTS credit points and is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of pharmaceutical design and engineering. The curriculum includes a range of courses that cover the pharmaceutical drug discovery process, as well as high-level biology courses and in-depth methodology and technology courses.

Research Areas

The program focuses on the development of drugs based on biological molecules, which is a global growth area in the pharmaceutical industry. Students will have the opportunity to work on projects related to age-related diseases, cancer, complex lifestyle diseases, autoimmune diseases, and certain infectious diseases.

Student Life

Students will have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with both Danish and international companies, either as part of the courses, as an individual project, or while writing their thesis. The program also provides students with the opportunity to study abroad as part of their degree, either through a semester abroad, an international joint degree, or a summer school exchange.
