Ph.D. in Materials Engineering
The Ph.D. in Materials Engineering is a diverse degree designed to help prepare students for careers in advanced materials engineering research in a variety of industrial and academic settings. The program is a joint program between the UAB Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the University of Alabama Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.
Program Details
The program includes separate Ph.D. tracks for students entering with baccalaureate degrees and for students entering with master's degrees in materials or metallurgical engineering (or a similarly named program). Students whose degrees are in other engineering fields or in the physical sciences may also be accepted, provided they demonstrate competence in fields of study that emphasize the interrelationships among structure, processing, performance, and properties of materials.
