Bioinformatics
The UAB undergraduate bioinformatics program is the first of its kind in Alabama. Bioinformatics is useful in life science fields such as genetics, microbiology, biotechnology, and in the breakthrough area of precision medicine.
About the Program
Bioinformatics is an emerging field that involves managing and analyzing large amounts of data about living thingsdata that will help us treat human diseases and make breakthroughs that will improve our lives. Graduates launch careers as data analysts, software engineers, research specialists, computational biologists, and data managers.
The bioinformatics program is designed to prepare students for a wide range of career paths. It provides a solid foundation that includes biology, computer science, public health, math, genetics, and chemistry, as well as seminars, electives, and a capstone project. Students also have access to resources, internships, opportunities to study abroad, and other activities that help them put their knowledge to use.
