The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering offers a broad-based major in civil engineering. The program covers:
- mechanics and structures
- soils
- surveying
- transportation
- water resources
- environmental engineering
- construction engineering management Computer applications are emphasized in all areas.
Designed to Prepare You for a Career
Our goal is to prepare students for entry into the civil engineering profession as design engineers. The program is based on a strong foundation of mathematics, physical sciences, humanities, and social sciences and is supported by a series of basic courses from other engineering disciplines. It is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET.

Major Requirements
Full course requirements, admissions information, course descriptions, and a suggested four-year plan of study for the major can be found in the UAB Undergraduate Catalog. Electives in the academic program may be selected from courses in:

- environmental engineering
- geotechnical engineering
- transportation engineering These courses allow you to emphasize a particular area in your studies. Wise selection of these electives may be used as additional preparation for a specific design career or for entry into a specialized civil engineering certificate or engineering graduate program.
