Program Overview

Emergency Radiology Fellowship Program

The Emergency Radiology Fellowship Program is a non-ACGME accredited fellowship that spans 12 months, with one position available per academic year. The fellow will work closely with dedicated members of the Emergency Radiology section of the UAB Department of Radiology, as well as faculty in Neuroradiology, Abdominal, Chest, and MSK sections. Electives are encouraged to provide fellows with valuable experience in other subspecialties.

Program Structure

The program consists of 9 months of dedicated ED Radiology rotations at UAB Hospital and 3 months of electives to pursue additional areas of interest. UAB is a Level 1 trauma center, handling volumes in the top 10 in the nation for trauma. Fellows are strongly encouraged to consider electives in Neuroradiology, MSK, Body, or Chest, including Cardiac.

Benefits and Leave

The fellow will enjoy 22 days of vacation and 10 days of sick leave within the 12 months of training. Internal and external moonlighting opportunities are also available during the fellowship.

Clinical Experience

The fellow will work alongside dedicated ED Radiologists and be actively engaged in the performance of emergent trauma and non-trauma imaging, code stroke, as well as emergent Neuroradiology and MSK CT and MRI interpretations.

Multidisciplinary Conferences

In addition to gaining valuable clinical experience, the trainee will have the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary conferences with the ED section and other sections within UAB Radiology. The department has outstanding residency programs, and as a valuable member of the department, ED trainees will provide several didactic and case conference lectures throughout the fellowship year.

Research and Conference Participation

The fellow will have the opportunity to use five business days for conference time, with additional conference participation considered, particularly if the fellow is presenting at a conference. Participation in research is encouraged and supported but not required to graduate from the program.
