Program Overview
Integrated Product Design
The master's programme in Integrated Product Design is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the field of product design. The programme is divided into two tracks: Industrial Design Engineering and Innovation Management and Product Development.
Introduction
The programme aims to equip students with a deep understanding of the design process, from concept to production. Students will learn about the latest design tools and technologies, as well as the principles of innovation and product development.
Entry Requirements
To be admitted to the master's programme in Integrated Product Design, students must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an internationally recognised university, equivalent to a Swedish bachelor's degree.
- English proficiency equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
- A bachelor's degree corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits.
- Knowledge within Mechanical Engineering, with a theoretical depth shown by a substantial number of courses in, for example:
- Mechanical Engineering: Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electrical Engineering, Machine Elements, Manufacturing Technology, 3D-CAD, Product Development, and Engineering Design.
- For the Industrial Design Engineering track, good knowledge in Industrial Design, shown by a substantial number of courses in, for example:
- Ergonomics, Design Processes, User studies, Formgiving, Material selection, Sketching, Rapid Prototyping, and Digital 3D-visualisation.
- Applicants to the Industrial Design Engineering track must also submit a design portfolio that demonstrates substantial knowledge and skills in industrial design.
Application Documents
Students must submit the following documents:
- Degree certificates: Official certificates of completed degrees.
- Transcript: Official transcript of courses and grades completed in the degree.
- Proof of English proficiency: Depending on whether the requirement is met through a test or previous studies.

- Letters of recommendation: Two letters describing why the student is the right choice for admission.
- Summary sheet: Available via the link when the application opens.
- Design portfolio: For applicants to the Industrial Design Engineering track, indicating the necessary skills and ability in industrial design.
Selection Criteria
The selection process is based on the following criteria:
- Study results (grades, relevant subjects, and English)
- Portfolio (for the Industrial Design Engineering track)
- Motivation for studies (motivation letter, references, courses, and/or relevant work experience)
- Prior education
Acceptance Rate
The acceptance rate for the Industrial Design Engineering track in the master's programme in Integrated Product Design for 2025 was 60%. The acceptance rate for the Innovation Management and Product Development track was 39%.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Students who entirely or partially lack a formal requirement for a course or programme but believe they have the necessary knowledge to meet the requirement can apply for recognition of prior learning.
