Course Description
The course AI1525, Legal Framework of the Built Environment, is a 7.5 credit course that deals with the basics of the legal system that regulates and affects the built environment, aiming for sustainable development. This includes rules governing changes of land use through plans and permits, environmental legislation, and special rules for construction in or close to water.
Course Contents
The course consists of lectures, exercises, and seminars that cover the following topics:
- Rules governing changes of land use through plans and permits
- Environmental legislation, such as contamination of soil and protection of nature
- Special rules for construction in or close to water
- Division of responsibility between the public and private sector for streets, water, sewerage, and other common utilities
Intended Learning Outcomes
The overall objective of the course is that the student should know the basics of the system of law that regulates and has an impact on sustainable development in the built environment. After completing the course with a passing grade, the student should be able to:
- Describe the authorities' responsibilities in decisions regarding land use and construction
- Describe the system of laws regulating and controlling land use and construction
- Describe the system of laws governing protection of nature and the built environment
- Apply these law regulations in cases of various types
- Describe and explain the regulated process for construction of public roads
Literature and Preparations
Specific Prerequisites
Basic knowledge in real estate development corresponding to at least 6hp in course AI1527 Introduction to the Planning and Building Process, including TEN3 (Written exam 1.5hp) and ÖVN3 (Exercise 1.5hp) or course AG1137 Planning and Governance of Urban and Regional Development.
