Content and Learning Outcomes
Course Disposition
The course includes approximately 160 full-time study hours in the form of science seminars that are held every two weeks. The seminars focus on current trends in the field of organic chemistry where the graduate students present, read, interpret, analyze, critically examine, and actively discuss current published scientific work. When possible, external researchers in the field can be invited.
Course Contents
Topics that are covered include:
- Organic synthesis
- Catalysis (for example transition metal-, bio-, organo- and photocatalysis)
- Supramolecular chemistry
- Material chemistry
Intended Learning Outcomes
After passing the course, the student should be able to:
- Show broad and specialized knowledge in the scientific field of the course, and about the overall subject area of organic chemistry
- Pedagogically present, critically examine, and discuss published scientific papers in the field of organic chemistry
- Demonstrate insight into, and basic ability to apply, academic authorship and the international scientific publishing landscape with relevance to the scientific subject area of the course
- Identify, discuss, and reflect on ethics and sustainability aspects in the research that is discussed within the framework of the subject area of the course
Literature and Preparations
Specific Prerequisites
Eligible for studies at the third-cycle level.
Recommended Prerequisites
It is an advantage to have completed KD1230 Organic chemistry, basic concepts and practice, KD1270 Organic chemistry, basic concepts and practice 2, KD2310 Advanced organic chemistry or equivalent.
Literature
Information about course literature can be found in the course memo for the course offering or in the course room.
Examination and Completion
Grading Scale
P, F
Examination
- DEL1 - Participation, 6.0 credits, grading scale: P, F
Based on recommendation from the coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
Other Requirements for Final Grade
Active participation at 80% of the course sessions, which in addition to attending and actively participating in discussions also includes carrying out two presentations during an academic year.
Examiner
Helena Lundberg Ankner
Ethical Approach
