Program Overview
Ph.D. Program in Architecture and Building Sciences
The Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture program at the Department of Architecture and Building Sciences, College of Architecture and Planning, King Saud University is the first PhD program in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The establishment of the Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture and Building Sciences was approved by the decision of the King Saud University Council at the seventh session of the King Saud University Council for the academic year 1421/1422 held on 28/2/1422H corresponding to 22/5/2001 and resumed on 29/2/1422H corresponding to 23/5/2001.
Program Mission
To prepare researchers who employ intellectual creativity and scientific research techniques to enrich the knowledge of architecture and building sciences to serve society and contribute in building a knowledge economy.
Program Objectives
- Attract qualified local and international human resources and training them in research and innovation
- Demonstrate creativity and scientific mastery in handling problems and challenges in the field of architecture and building sciences, and enriching its knowledge within the framework of approved ethical practices.
- Contribute to the development of architecture and building sciences in the Kingdom within the framework of local, Arab and Islamic identity.
Admission Requirements for the Program
Subject to the provisions of the Graduate Studies Regulations, the following is required:
- The applicant must hold a master's degree in architecture or engineering sciences related to architecture and urbanism from King Saud University or equivalent universities.
- The applicant must pass the personal interview conducted by the department.
- The applicant must pass the TOEFL test with a total score of at least 450 or any similar test, or must have a master's degree from a university where the language of study is English.
Basic Requirements for the Program
The candidate for a Doctor of Philosophy degree in architecture and building sciences is required to complete the following requirements:
- Pass (16) semester hours of courses offered in the department, taught at three levels of study.
- Pass courses (not less than 6 semester units) offered at the university according to the field.
- Pass a comprehensive exam.
- Prepare and write a scientific thesis characterized by originality and innovation.
