Program Overview
Program Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry is an undergraduate course designed to provide in-depth knowledge of basic biochemistry principles and interdisciplinary areas such as molecular biology, immunology, toxicology, biotechnology, and human nutrition.
Program Structure
The program is carefully structured to ensure students attain a solid foundation in various scientific disciplines, including:
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Mathematics
- Biostatistics
- Zoology
- Botany
- Microbiology These disciplines constitute the base for advanced modules of biochemistry in subsequent semesters.
Specialized Modules
Specific modules are included to help students understand the pathogenesis of:
- Inborn errors of metabolism
- Cancer These modules are particularly relevant, given the high prevalence of these conditions in the Kingdom.
Language Support
Recognizing that many students originate from Arabic medium schools and may face difficulties with scientific glossary and biochemistry topics, which are predominantly available in English, the program includes:
- Two modules of English language to ensure proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding English.
Foundation Semesters
In the first two semesters, students are required to attain basic knowledge of the aforementioned scientific disciplines, providing a solid base for understanding advanced biochemistry modules in later semesters.
