Program Overview
Pediatric Orthopedics Program
The Pediatric Orthopedics Program is designed to provide fellows with the opportunity to drive maximum benefit from the diverse teaching, clinical, and research opportunities available at the participating centers. The aim of the program is to become competent Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeons that can deal with common paediatric orthopaedic problems efficiently.
Program Overview
Children constitute more than 50% of the Saudi population, and optimal medical care of this segment of the community is very important. Paediatric Orthopaedics is one of the growing subspecialities in Orthopaedics, as treatment of children's Orthopaedic problems is different from adults. The idea of establishing a fellowship program in Paediatric Orthopaedics gains its urgency.
Program History
The Paediatric Orthopaedics service started in King Khalid University in 1984, and a special unit for Paediatric Orthopaedics started in 1994. The unit treats a big number of Orthopaedic problems in children and is a referral center from all over the country.
Program Objectives
On completion of the program, fellows should have acquired the knowledge and skills essential to the practice of Paediatric Orthopaedics. The program provides fellows with the opportunity to gain experience in the diagnosis and treatment of various paediatric orthopaedic conditions, including common problems such as clubfoot, hip dysplasia, and spinal deformities.
Program Outcome
The program aims to produce competent Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeons who can provide high-quality care to children with orthopaedic problems. The program also provides opportunities for research and academic development, allowing fellows to contribute to the advancement of the field of Paediatric Orthopaedics.
