Data Protection (2.0 Credits)

• Introduction to data protection: History and evolution of data protection, importance of data protection in the digital environment
• European legal framework: General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), key principles, rights of data subjects, obligations of data controllers and processors
• National legislation: Organic Law on Data Protection and Guarantee of Digital Rights (LOPDGDD), adaptations and national specificities, authorities and their competencies
• International data transfers: Rules for transferring data outside the European Economic Area (EEA), standard contractual clauses and other transfer mechanisms
• Security measures and impact assessments: Implementation of technical and organizational measures, data protection impact assessments (DPIAs)
• Responsibility and sanctions: Sanctioning regime in the GDPR and LOPDGDD, case studies and examples of sanctions

Intellectual Property (2.0 Credits)

• Introduction to intellectual property: History and evolution of intellectual property, importance of intellectual property in the digital environment
• European legal framework: Directive on copyright in the digital single market, key principles, rights of authors and related rights holders, obligations of users and service providers
• National legislation: Intellectual Property Law (LPI), adaptations and national specificities
• Relevant case law: Emblematic cases and important judicial decisions, impact of case law on the interpretation of regulations
• Subject, object, content, and limits of copyright and related rights: Protection of software and artificial intelligence systems in copyright law
• Protection of databases in intellectual property law: Measures to protect and manage rights, collective management of rights and licenses

Artificial Intelligence Law (1.0 Credit)

• Introduction to artificial intelligence: History and evolution of artificial intelligence, importance of artificial intelligence in the digital environment
• European legal framework: European Artificial Intelligence Regulation, key principles, obligations of AI providers and users
• Obligations of AI providers and users: Transparency and explainability requirements, conformity assessments and certifications
• Rights of data subjects: Rights of individuals in relation to AI systems, complaint and redress mechanisms
• Supervision and compliance: Supervisory authorities and their competencies, supervision and compliance procedures, sanctioning regime and examples of sanctions

Evaluation System

• Attendance and participation: Attendance at classes and presentation of a summary work on the subject matter
