Introduction to Tianjin University's Chinese Language Learning Program
Tianjin University's Chinese Language Learning Program is designed for international students who are interested in learning Chinese. The program offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes Chinese language courses, cultural activities, and elective courses.
Program Overview
The program is designed for students who want to improve their Chinese language skills and learn about Chinese culture. The program is offered in three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Students can choose to study for one semester or one academic year.
Curriculum
The curriculum includes:
- Chinese language courses: conversation, listening, reading, and comprehensive Chinese
- Chinese cultural courses (elective): Taiji, martial arts, calligraphy, Chinese painting, paper-cutting, cooking, Chinese songs, and seal carving
- Other courses (elective): HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) preparation, business Chinese
- Extracurricular activities: sightseeing in Tianjin (additional fees may apply)
Duration and Schedule
The program duration is one semester or more, with 20 classes per week.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
- Not be a Chinese citizen (or have given up Chinese citizenship)
- Be in good health and have a good moral character
- Have a high school diploma and be at least 18 years old (applicants under 18 must provide a guardian certificate from a notary public in Tianjin)
- Meet the requirements of the Chinese government's regulations on international students
Application Period
The application period for the spring semester is from October 1 to December 31, and for the fall semester is from March 1 to June 30.
Application Procedure
Applicants must submit their application through the Tianjin University International Student Management System and upload the required documents, including:
- Highest academic degree certificate or notarized copy
- Transcripts of all courses taken
- Passport (valid for at least one year)
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form (for students studying for one year or more)
- Certificate of no criminal record (for students studying for one year or more)
Tuition Fees
The tuition fees for the program are as follows:
- 1 semester: 7,000 yuan (approximately $1,000 USD)
- 1 academic year: 14,000 yuan (approximately $2,000 USD)
Accommodation Fees
The accommodation fees for the program are as follows:
- Single room: 60 yuan per day (approximately $9 USD)
- Double room: 50 yuan per day (approximately $7 USD)
Scholarship
The university offers scholarships to outstanding students, including the Chinese Government Scholarship, Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship, and Tianjin University Scholarship.
Visa Application and Registration
Students who are accepted into the program must apply for a Chinese visa at the Chinese embassy or consulate in their home country and register at the university on the designated date.

The university reserves the right to adjust the program and fees as needed. Students are responsible for their own expenses, including travel, living, and miscellaneous fees.
