Program Overview


Pre-Foundation Programme

The Pre-Foundation course is an intensive, full-time, six-week (90 contact hours) course designed for students who do not meet the entry requirements for the International Foundation Programme (IFP) or who are former IFP students who do not meet the criteria to repeat. The course aims to provide students with the necessary listening, reading, writing, and thinking skills to progress onto the International Foundation Programme. Through exploration of topical content, students will engage in a variety of class activities and assessments leading to submission of a final portfolio.

Eligibility

The Pre Foundation Course is suitable for prospective students who wish to join the International Foundation Programme at Middlesex University Dubai and do not meet the academic requirement, who are required to complete the Pre-Foundation Course based on the review of their application by the Director or Nominee. Former students who wish to repeat the IFP programme but who do not meet the eligibility criteria for repeating the programme.


Course Duration

The Pre-Foundation Course is a full-time programme lasting 6 weeks, with a total of 90 contact hours (15 hours of classes per week).


Course Dates and Location

The course will run from 2 December to 20 December 2024, and from 6 January to 24 January 2025. Classes are scheduled Monday through Friday from 9AM to 12:30PM. All classes will take place in person at our Dubai Knowledge Park campus.


Progression to International Foundation Programme

Students who successfully complete the Pre-Foundation Course will be eligible to progress to the International Foundation Programme (IFP) at the January 2025 intake at Middlesex University Dubai, provided they also meet the University's English Language Requirements for the IFP. Completion of this course does not exempt students from meeting the English Language Requirements.


Course Fees

A fee of 5,000 including VAT is required, payable in full before the course start date and non-refundable. For students who successfully complete the Pre-Foundation Course and progress to the International Foundation Programme (IFP) in January 2025, 3,000 of this fee will be credited toward their IFP tuition. Students who do not complete the Pre-Foundation Course or do not join the IFP in the January 2025 intake will not be eligible for any refund of the fees paid.


Assessment

The programme will be assessed by 100% coursework including the following:


  • Formative Assessment: You will undertake a series of formative tasks in preparation for your final portfolio.
  • Summative Assessment: A portfolio of four formative tasks and a 350-word reflection. Upon successful completion of the Pre-Foundation Programme, you will be awarded a certificate from Middlesex University Dubai indicating you have passed the programme and are eligible to join the International Foundation Programme at Middlesex University Dubai.

Course Content

Students will engage in learning activities to include reading, writing, listening (Ted talks, videos, podcasts) and public speaking (mini presentations) each week on a topical subject of interest to their age group (social media, AI, manufactured pop bands (kpop), and hobbies and wellbeing).


Attendance

A minimum of 90% class attendance is required to pass the portfolio assessment. Attendance and Participation- Students are required to attend all scheduled classes and actively participate in coursework and assessments. A minimum attendance rate of 90% is mandatory to receive a completion certificate for the course.


Student Visa

Please note that the university does not provide student visas for the Pre-Foundation Course. Students are responsible for securing the necessary documentation to reside and study in the country, including arranging their own visas and travel.
