Introduction to the BSc Honours Psychology with Criminology Programme

Module Descriptions

Crime in Social Context

This module challenges conventional perceptions of crime, exploring its contested essence over time and space. Emphasis is placed on understanding the impact of social factors on crime constructions, including issues of class, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and religion.


Psychological Science: From Individuals to Society

This module introduces the diversity and breadth of approaches in the discipline of psychology, covering selected areas of mental health, developmental, and social psychology. Students are encouraged to adopt a reflective and critical perspective on the subject matter.


Psychological Science: From Biology to Individual Variation

This module provides research-informed introductions to selected areas of individual differences, cognitive, and biological psychology. Students are encouraged to adopt a reflective and critical perspective on the subject matter, considering both commonalities and diversities in human thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.


The Psychologist's Toolkit: Essentials of Research Design and Analysis

This module introduces students to the principles and practice of qualitative and quantitative psychological research, focusing on research questions, design, data collection, preparation, and analysis. Students develop digital literacy and hands-on experience with data handling and analysis procedures.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements vary depending on the curriculum:


  • Indian Secondary School Certificates / CBSE: Minimum grade of 70% overall
  • British A-Levels: Minimum Two or Three with grades AA / BBB
  • GCSE: Eligible to join the International Foundation Programme
  • International Baccalaureate: Minimum 24 – 28 Points
  • American High School Diploma: Minimum GPA of 2.8, with SAT scores of 1100 or an ACT composite score of 23
  • Tawjihiyya (Secondary School Certificate): Eligible to apply for the International Foundation Programme
  • Pakistani National Curriculum: Completion of Year 1 at a recognised post-secondary institution or admission to the International Foundation Programme
  • Iranian Pre-University Certificate: Minimum overall grade of 12, with admission to the International Foundation Programme
  • Nigerian Senior School Leaving Certificate: Admission to the International Foundation Programme
  • National Curriculum of the countries of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan: Admission to the International Foundation Programme
  • West African GCE: Admission to the International Foundation Programme
  • BTEC Level 3: BTEC qualifications may be considered for direct entry into an undergraduate programme
  • Middlesex University International Foundation Programme (IFP): Successful completion of the IFP

English Language Requirements

  • IELTS Academic: 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in each band)
  • TOEFL Internet-based: 72 (17 in listening & writing, 20 in speaking and 18 in reading)
  • Pearson PTE Academic: 59 (with 59 in all components)
  • Dubai Campus MDX Internal English Test: 6.0 (with 5.5 in each component) Alternatively, students with certain qualifications (e.g., GCSE/IGCSE/O-Level English, International Baccalaureate, CBSE/ISC boards/NIOS/All state boards) may be considered as having met the English language requirements.

Teaching

Classes are held at the Dubai Knowledge Park campus, with additional sessions potentially scheduled over weekends or holiday periods. Attending scheduled weekly classes is mandatory.
