Introduction to the BA Honours Graphic Design Programme
The BA Honours Graphic Design programme at Middlesex University Dubai encourages students to explore and extend their creativity while equipping them with the necessary technical skills to physically realise their work. The programme focuses on visually communicating ideas creatively, inventively, and effectively.
Programme Modules
The programme consists of various modules, including:
- Creative Workshops (30 Credits) Compulsory: Introduces students to various design disciplines, such as design thinking, life drawing, digital design, moving image, video editing, photography, design for print, and styling.
- Communication Skills (30 Credits) Compulsory: Develops students' abilities in industry-relevant communication tasks or assets related to illustration or graphic design.
- Innovative Projects (30 Credits) Compulsory: Fosters innovation through the exploration of design methods and cultivates conceptual thinking and creative confidence.
- Creative Media and Cultures (30 Credits) Compulsory: Introduces students to the position of illustration, design, brands, and media in contemporary society and issues of equality and responsible production and consumption.
Programme Content
The BA Honours Graphic Design programme educates, inspires, and prepares graduates to be the creative designers of the future. The course has been developed to embrace contemporary changes in the creative industries and is built on a formidable tradition of creative exploration and design education.
What You Will Study
Throughout the programme, students will learn about:
- The diversity of the study area and the breadth of approaches to exploring and solving graphic design problems.
- Visual and theoretical research, lateral thinking, and visual and verbal communication skills.
- Creative problem-solving in the context of discipline specifics, utilising understanding of the creative process to make design work worth spending time with.
- Solving visual communications problems to a professional standard, drawing on highly developed creative intelligence and design skills to make a portfolio of work that best represents the individual designer.

Entry Requirements
The entry requirements for the programme include:
- Successful completion of the Middlesex University International Foundation Programme (IFP)
- Indian Secondary School Certificates issued by the CBSE/ISC boards/NIOS/All State Boards with a minimum grade of 65% overall
- British A-Levels with minimum two, maximum three subjects, with grades of B,B,C
- International Baccalaureate with a minimum grade of 5 in English A1 (Standard or Higher Level)
- English Language Requirements: IELTS Academic with a minimum score of 6.0, TOEFL Internet-based with a minimum score of 72, Pearson PTE Academic with a minimum score of 59, or Dubai Campus MDX Internal English Test with a minimum score of 6.0
Teaching
Classes are held at the Dubai Knowledge Park campus, Monday to Friday, between 8:30am and 5:30pm. The programme requires active involvement and collaboration with fellow students, including working and learning as part of small groups. Learning activities may occur both within and outside the classroom, and students' learning will also be supported by using existing and emerging technologies.
Future Career and Employment
The Middle East and North Africa is the fastest-growing region in the world for design, worth over US$100 billion across the region. Graphic Designers may find employment primarily in design agencies, advertising agencies, digital media companies, as freelance designers in a range of specialist areas, or in a growing number of companies that have the foresight to buy in good design as part of their business strategy.
