Introduction to the BA Honours Digital Media and Communications Programme
The BA Honours Digital Media and Communications programme is designed to provide students with a curriculum that meets the practical, technical, and theoretical demands of a career in the fast-paced creative industries. This programme empowers students with an excellent understanding of social media promotion strategies, content management tools, and approaches, teaching them to effectively communicate ideas in multiple registers, forms of media, and platforms for diverse purposes and audiences.
Programme Modules
The programme consists of various modules, including:
- Communication Skills (30 Credits) Compulsory: This module aims to develop students' abilities in industry-relevant communication tasks or assets related to illustration, graphic design, fashion communication, and styling, or advertising, public relations, and branding, or digital media.
- Creative Media and Cultures (30 Credits) Compulsory: This module introduces students to the position of illustration, design, brands, and media in contemporary society and issues of equality and responsible production and consumption.
- Creative Workshops (30 Credits) Compulsory: The aim of this module is to introduce students to various design disciplines, such as design thinking, life drawing, digital design, moving image, video editing, photography, design for print, and styling.
- Innovative Projects (30 Credits) Compulsory: This module fosters innovation through the exploration of design methods and cultivates conceptual thinking and creative confidence.

- Core modules such as Communication Skills, Creative Media and Cultures, Creative Workshops, and Innovative Projects
- The use of Adobe InCopy, InDesign, and Creative Cloud Express to produce rich multimedia content

Entry Requirements
The entry requirements for the programme are as follows:
- Indian Secondary School Certificates / CBSE: Minimum grade of 65% overall
- British A-Levels: Direct entry into year 1 of our Undergraduate Degree Programmes
- GCSE: Students who have completed their GCSEs are eligible to join our International Foundation Programme
- International Baccalaureate: Minimum Grade 24 28 Points
- American High School Diploma: Minimum GPA of 2.8, SAT scores of 1100, or an ACT composite score of 23
- Tawjihiyya (Secondary School Certificate): Students who have completed the Tawjihiyya will be eligible to apply for our International Foundation Programme
- Pakistani National Curriculum: Completion of Year 1 at a recognised post-secondary institution
- Iranian Pre-University Certificate: Minimum overall grade of 12
- Nigerian Senior School Leaving Certificate: Candidates are admitted to the International Foundation Programme
- National Curriculum of the countries of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan: Candidates are admitted to the International Foundation Programme
- West African GCE: Candidates are admitted to the International Foundation Programme
- BTEC Level 3: BTEC Level 3 qualifications may be considered for direct entry into an undergraduate programme
- Middlesex University International Foundation Programme (IFP): Successful completion of the Middlesex University International Foundation Programme
- NCUK Foundation Qualification: If you have a foundation qualification from NCUK, you can contact the admissions team directly to understand entry requirement eligibility for this programme
English Language Requirements
All programmes at Middlesex University Dubai are taught in English, and applicants with previous education outside of English-speaking countries must demonstrate English language proficiency as follows:
- IELTS Academic: 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in each band)
- TOEFL Internet-based: 72 (17 in listening & writing, 20 in speaking and 18 in reading)
- Pearson PTE Academic: 59 (with 59 in all components)
- Dubai Campus MDX Internal English Test: 6.0 (with 5.5 in each component)
Teaching
Classes are held at Dubai Knowledge Park campus Monday to Friday, between 8:30am and 5:30pm. No classes are scheduled on Fridays between 12.00pm and 2.00pm. Occasional sessions may be scheduled over weekends or holiday periods, and you can expect plenty of notice for these. Attending scheduled weekly classes is an important requirement for completion of the programme.
Future Career and Employment
The digital media and communications degree prepares students for careers in the fields of social media, marketing, e-commerce, and content production. Graduates will have excellent career prospects and various potential employers will be available across the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. The programme will prepare students for a range of careers in digital media production and communications. In particular, the degree fully prepares graduates to pursue four career trajectories after graduation: content creator, digital designer, creative technologist, and accounts manager. Graduates develop skills like marketing, customer relationship management, data analytics, and business development.
